Talking Like a Pirate

Talk Like a Pirate Day was this Tuesday, of course. Tuesday was also our first day of MOPS, which is a church program I volunteer at called Mothers of Preschoolers. The mothers come and bring their small children and we watch them and the moms get to enjoy a morning of speakers, crafts, and fellowship. I’m not entirely sure what, actually, because I’ve never seen what the moms do. Anyway, I’m in charge of Song and Snack time at MOPS now, so I get every group of the older kids and give them their snack and then we sing songs. I had three groups for Song and Snack and while they were having snack I asked them if they knew it was Talk like a Pirate Day. I was usually met with blank stares, but then I said what do pirates say? and in every group there was one kid that said “arrr!” But there was one little girl that could actually carry on a whole pirate conversation, and it was great! She knew “Ahoy Mateys!” and talked about walking down the plank and being “shark bait”, and on her own she said “Shiver me timbers!” That was the last straw and I just laughed hysterically.

My pirate name is:
Calico Charity Bonney

Often indecisive, you can’t even choose a favorite color. You’re apt to follow wherever the wind blows you, just like Calico Jack Rackham, your namesake. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate’s life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Talk like a Pirate Day

Ahoy, maties. It be Talk like a Pirate Day. Let’s take some time to review the basic TLAP jargon.

Ahoy! – “Hello!”

Avast! – Stop and give attention. It can be used in a sense of surprise, “Whoa! Get a load of that!” which today makes it more of a “Check it out” or “No way!” or “Get off!”

Aye! – “Why yes, I agree most heartily with everything you just said or did.”

Aye aye! – “I’ll get right on that sir, as soon as my break is over.”

Arrr! – This one is often confused with arrrgh, which is of course the sound you make when you sit on a belaying pin. “Arrr!” can mean, variously, “yes,” “I agree,” “I’m happy,” “I’m enjoying this beer,” “My team is going to win it all,” “I saw that television show, it sucked!” and “That was a clever remark you or I just made.” And those are just a few of the myriad possibilities of Arrr!

Tuesday Twosome Sleep:

1. Side of the bed: Left or Right? well, I have a twin bed, but the right side of it is against the wall, so I guess you could say the left side.
2. Sleep with or without covers? with
3. Sleep with or without night light? without
4. Deep or light sleeper? I’m not sure
5. More annoying to be awoken by: alarm or phone call? well, it depends whose calling. I don’t mind if it’s my boyfriend; he calls in the morning before he goes to work. but if it’s my dad or something… like he always thinks that at 9am “half the morning is gone.” like he wakes up at the crack of dawn…

okay, so I’m glad that my blog is back to being updated. My uncle is in Japan on business, and I was spending the night with his daughter to take her to school and whatnot, and last night I wanted to blog and totally got errors. Very upsetting. But I fixed them, and now I’m back in… blogness. haha.
I haven’t blogged for the last couple of days, partly because I’ve been learning php. I even wrote my first PHP script; Pretty Comments.
It is my 1 year anniversary with my boyfriend. For his gift, I got him captainjerrod.com for his blogging. Won’t that be cute? He loves pirates.
