Friday’s Feast

Appetizer
Name 3 people whom you admire for their intelligence. let’s see. J.P. Moreland. Everytime I hear him speak I’m just mezmorized. He talks fast and you have to really focus to process it. Plus, he lives right here in Yorba Linda. Perhaps I’ll decide on the rest later.

Soup
What’s the last food you tried that you really didn’t care for. I can’t really think of anything, but it was probably a jelly belly flavor since I was at the jelly belly warehouse when I visited Tana.

Salad
If you could rename the street that you live on, what would you want it to be called? Hmm. probably something booky, like Yellow Brick rd, or Green Gables, or Aslan’s Howe or Lantern Waste.

Main Course
When was the last time you were genuinely surprised? Probably when I read the new harry potter book.

Dessert
Share a household tip. let’s see. do I know any household tips? oh! I know something. If it’s a static day, to keep from getting shocked, take a dryer sheet and run it down the seat of your car, your hair, etc.

PC Update Extravaganza

Today started off a bit of computer upgrading/building madness. I’m building an HTPC(Home Theater PC)/HD PVR for my parents, and must of the parts are here now. I also got an extra hard drive for my computer. One of the nice Seagate 400 gb ones I’ve been admiring for a while now. I also got a new power supply, and one for my sister’s computer which has been apparently turning off on it’s own, so hopefully that will help. Nice ones, 500 watt with wrapped cables, extra fan, and of course lots of connectors so I can finally add more hard drives. I also decided to try the PlusDeck in my computer first, instead of installing it in my parents’ HTPC. The PlusDeck will allow me to convert my old audio tapes to mp3 format. I needed a bit of a break because I’ve been at it all day and my fingers are starting to feel raw.

Back in the Real World

After over a week in the Midwest visiting relatives, I’m back home in California. The G. Neva Convention was very successful, and we had 25 meeting in the tiny town of Ledyard, Iowa where my great grandmother, Neva, lives. We were able to enjoy each other’s company after not having met some for years, had lunch together, and spoke about what Grandma Neva meant to us. We also took a big selection of group photos, everyone in their matching shirts.

After the Convention, we spent the night at a hotel in Blue Earth, Minnesota, home of the Jolly Green Giant, and the next morning I set out with my aunt Tana to Wisconsin where I would spend that week visiting with her family. It was a fun week, but I’m glad to be home! 🙂

Summer Twosome

Summer….

1. Based on the current weather conditions, do you wish it were warmer or cooler? Why? the weather is good, but I sometimes which it wasn’t so stuffy in my room.

2. What two words best describe summer for you? Why? bright and happy, I’m not sure why
3. What are the two best reasons to enjoy summer? Why? because my birthday is in June, and lots of good movies come out

4. What are the two worst reasons to dislike summer? Why? tourists and crowds at Disneyland

5. Do you plan on going on a vacation this summer, and if so, where? we’re going to visit family this summer including my 93 year old great grandmother in Iowa.

Kids these days

Kids today compared to when you were a kid

I’ll be 22 in June. We always had a computer or two, at least at my grandparents’ house which is where I actually spent most of my time. Actually, I think they might still be in the closet somewhere. I wasn’t intune enough to know their specs at the time, but one was an IBM type with the yellow/black screen and a dot matrix printer that you could make banners on when someone had a birthday or came home with a new baby. The other was an apple that seemed to mostly play games, it had a green screen. My grandpa was an engineer.

I don’t know, I think that part of things like computers being incorporated into our lives is that we take them for granted. I mean, think of the things that we take for granted that people in past generations didn’t have? refridgerators, microwaves, etc.

I grew up and went to school in Orange County, CA

When I was little I’d play with dolls, barbies combined with other small toys like my little pony and quints. and when I was old enough I read. I read alot. I have two younger sisters.

I have a cousin whose 8. She’s my uncle’s daughter, and her mother started leaving them and other behavior like that when she was 2. Sidney(cousin) is a very smart girl, but she’s not always respectful. I think part of the problem is that my grandma always lets her get away with things. She says it’s because Sidney always has to go where she’s told and doesn’t have a choice. She’s a kid, that’s what you do when you’re a kid. You go home when your parents say it’s time to go home. I don’t understand why she’s allowed to watch pet ER while we’re having dinner.

We first got internet access in I think 1995. Maybe early ’94. We got dial-up and I used netscape 3.0

when I see the jr high kids walking down the street after school, I think it looks about the same as when I was their age. I mean, styles have changed but there are some kids who dress younger, and some who try to dress older, like when I was their age.

But school seems to have changed. Even high school is different from when I left it. I graduated in 2001, and my younger sisters currently go to the high school I attended. There are more dress code rules. My freshman year in high school there were, like, three dress code rules. There are more graduation requirements. I was fortunate enough to graduate before Algebra 1 was required which is lucky because I failed the second semester of it like three times. There’s this test now that you have to pass to graduate, although my sister said she already took it and it’s easy. Even the policies for picking kids up from school are different. Now siblings can’t pick up students without a note from the parents. Or they call the parents for confirmation, even if they’re going home sick through the nurse’s office(that’s the one that seems silly to me. I mean, I’m on her emergency card. She went through the nurse, they called me to pick her up… you still need to talk to my mom?)

Tuesday Twosome

1. Mail-in rebates: A pain to deal with or worth the wait to get money back? a pain. It involves mailing, and for me that’s never good.
2. Warranties: Take a chance without them or a must have when buying high-priced items? usually no, but occasionally I get them
3. Product knowledge: Research before you buy or rely on salesperson? research, definitely.
4. Word of mouth: Base purchases on what your friends say or disregard because you know what you are doing? it depends on if the friend knows what they’re doing as well
5. New Versions: Must buy the latest version right away or wait for a while? usually, I’d want to get the latest version as soon as I could, but for some things (like, say, a new OS) I like to wait a while and see how it works.

fixing that computer

Here I am at my parents’ house fixing my sister’s old computer. They finally got their network back up, but this computer is beyond messed up. I’m even having trouble getting it to boot from a windows disc. I cleaned up the startup programs. tons of spyware junk, I’m sure. Then I was finally able to get My Computer open and started to run windows setup.

I reformatted the partition, and am now successfully(so far) installing windows. Sometimes a machine is too far gone to be much helped by running virus and spyware scans and any other thing you could do, and you just have to start over. Reformat. Reinstall the OS.
Here’s a link that has some helpful tips for fixing up a computer:

The Importance of the Resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:12-22
Now if Christ is preached, that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead?
But if there is no resurrection of the dead, not even Christ has been raised;
and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain.
Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised.
For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised;
and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied.
The Order of Resurrection
But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.
For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

Friday Feast

Appetizer – What is the worst movie you’ve ever seen? hmm. The worst? probably the second Matrix. I loved the first one so much and we were waiting for the next ones for like 4 years, and it was just not good. Worst of all, I just can’t watch The Matrix like I used to.

Soup – Name something that reminds you of your childhood. Care Bears

Salad – If you had to live in a large city, which one would you want it to be? well, I already live in the L.A. area

Main Course – What’s a “big word” you like to use to impress people? I don’t really think about it, I just try to always use the best word for the situation. If it’s a bigger word, then that’s the one I use.

Dessert – Describe your hairstyle. Long and fairly straight.
